Long time no post! Radioactive girl has been one busy health physicist. Whoa, I almost wrote "one busty health physicist." OK, that is probably true for the most part, since more health physicists are male- 58% as opposed to 42% female- the odds are in my favor. I am currently working on the annual medical licensee audit for a major medical center. Last year's audit comprised of 46 pages, of interest to no-one but the state department of Radiological Health or the NRC. Some hospital personnel have been known to read those parts that pertain to them. I have been able in past years to do some cutting and pasting, but not this year. I have abandoned the NRC suggested audit form for that released by my state. We have recently become an NRC "Agreement State." That means that the State has agreed to take on much of the NRC's work regarding radioactive materials use within that state. I'm not really sure what the state gets out of the bargain, except perhaps a sense of control. I have added a picture of the new PET/CT scanner room in the New Cancer Center. Nice fake views to look at, don't you think? The PET/CT area of the new Cancer Center is just one of many areas I will audit. We use the term "survey" since audit sounds so scary. It amounts to the same thing, but is kinder, gentler.
